Package Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack for Software Assurance meets the needs of users in improving the manageability and reduce complexity of managing corporate IT infrastructure. This solution is designed for dynamic desktop systems and is available to subscribers Software Assurance. This solution uses the latest development and to improve desktop manageability, reduce total cost of ownership and increase the overall level of satisfaction with the infrastructure.

Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack is distributed as a set of four distributions of the above programs (Asset Inventory Service is not included in the package, because it is not a program, and online service). Distributions fully mobile, autonomous and self-contained, so each member in the software package can be distributed and installed separately from the whole package.

* Microsoft SoftGrid Application Virtualization (formerly Softricity SoftGrid) – solution for application virtualization and streaming downloads.
* Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset (formerly Winternals Administator’s Pak) – a set of powerful tools to help accelerate the restoration of desktop systems.
* Microsoft Asset Inventory Service (formerly AssetMetrix) – content scanning services run all the software installed on each PC.
* Microsoft Advanced Group Policy Management (formerly DesktopStandard GPOVault) – a means of providing version control of GPOs, change management and delegation.
* Microsoft System Center Desktop Error Monitoring – allows for proactive management failures of applications and operating system.

The Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) is a dynamic desktop solution that is available as a subscription for Software Assurance customers. The solution suite enhances application deployment and compatibility, increases IT responsiveness and end user uptime, and helps reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) of your desktop software and IT management.

MDOP employs six innovative technologies to increase desktop manageability, reduce TCO, and improve overall infrastructure satisfaction:
* Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) turns applications into centrally managed services that are never installed, never conflict, and are streamed on demand to end users.
* Microsoft Enterprise Desktop Virtualization (MED-V) provides deployment and management of virtual PC images to enable key enterprise scenarios, primarily resolving application compatibility with a new version of Windows.
* Microsoft Advanced Group Policy Management (AGPM) enhances governance and control over Group Policy through robust change management, versioning, and role-based administration.
* Microsoft Asset Inventory Service (AIS) is a hosted service that collects software inventory data and translates it into actionable business intelligence.
* Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset (DaRT) reduces downtime by accelerating troubleshooting, repair, and data recovery of unbootable Windows-based desktops.
* Microsoft System Center Desktop Error Monitoring (DEM) provides insights into application and operating system failures, allowing helpdesk to be more proactive in managing PC problems, without installing an agent to the endpoint.
